Taste and See

Psalm 34:8 ESV Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Have you ever been hungry for something you can't stop thinking about it? I know that is not a question to ask when you're fasting, but hunger can teach us a lot!
Hunger pulls its strength from various regions. For instance, the mind - Your brain works overtime to tell you that something is off and reminds you of meals - favorite choices. If you are hungry for a lengthy period of time, your mind will kick into survival mode - presenting choices and options, and even dwelling on certain items. Your physical body also goes into to overdrive. Your stomach lets you know by grumbling at you. You're dizzy and weak. Emotionally you can get irritated, agitated, grumpy, etc, etc, etc.. All of these systems work together to get some sort of response from you.
This is very evident in the physical realm with regards to food, but the discipline is to have this same system at work in the spiritual. To be hungry for God and the things of the Lord. We can be so distracted and filled with much appetites of the world, that our internal sensors that should tell us our need for intaking the Lord is not as dire as your hamburger fix. But God's still small voice calls out to us - to come to Him and to dine with Him.

Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. (ESV)
It is interesting that the bible talks about spiritual digestion of the Lord.
Psalm 34:8 ESV Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
The concept of consuming the Lord for your life is not far fetched. In fact, Jesus states that He is the bread of life and tells us to do just that. He also taught that as we pray, we are to ask the Father for our daily bread. This is spiritual intake. It feeds our soul. This is needed, much like your body tells you that you need your next meal. We must partake of what He has for us or we can see a downward spiral toward worldly things. Jesus said, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied (Matthew 5:6 ESV)."
Are you hungry for the Lord?
Does your spiritual, mental, and physical long for Him as you do for food?
My personal choice is to want to get to a place where my body yearns for Him just as much as a feast. The psalmists says it best when he said, "As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God (Psalm 42:1)."
It certainly shows dependency, but what I have found is that it leads to blessing. "Blessed in the man who takes refuge in Him!"
Develop and discipline yourself to hunger for God.
Allow Him to satisfy your soul!
